The Trans-Antarctic Appeal Committee was a community based committee, set up by the Palmerston North City Council to raise funds for the New Zealand personnel (led by Sir Edmund Hillary) who, in 1956 -1957, participated in the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition.
