Descriptive Note
Registered files. Records of the Civil Defence Section of the Town Clerk’s Department, arranged in numerical order. The Civil Defence Section was established in 1964 with the appointment of Mr. K A North, the Council’s first (part time) Civil Defence Officer. Most of the records were created after 1974 when the Council’s first fulltime Civil Defence Officer (Mr R J Shepherd) was appointed. This series was created by Mr Lynn Smith (Civil Defence Officer) about 1980-1981, but incorporates some files dating from earlier years. The files contain correspondence, reports and working papers. Some of the reports and correspondence in this series can also be found on the Civil Defence files kept by the Records Office of the Town Clerk’s Dept. (see series 1/5/5, file 49/4-49/4/26)
