Descriptive Note
Papers created during the Civil Defence emergency of 24-27 July 1988 caused by flooding in the Amberley areas of the city. The Civil Defence Section of the Town Clerk’s Department was established in 1964 with the appointment of Mr. K A North, the Council’s first (part time) Civil Defence Officer. Most of the records were created after 1974 when the Council’s first fulltime Civil Defence Officer (Mr R J Shepherd) was appointed. Some of the reports and correspondence in this series can also be found on the Civil Defence files kept by the Records Office of the Town Clerk’s Dept. (see series 1/5/5, file 49/4-49/4/26)
