A large metal plaque which was originally fixed to the wall of the entrance foyer on the ground floor of the Public Library building (corner of The Square and Main Street). The plaque was removed in 1996, when the library moved to a new building in The Square.
The wording reads as follows: "Palmerston North / City Library / This building was opened by / His Excellency The Governor General / Sir Bernard Fergusson / G.C.M.G., G.C.V.O., D.S.O., O.B.E. / on the / 4th November 1965 / Council 1962-1965 / G.M. Rennie, O.B.E., Mayor / Councillors / D.T. Spring, Deputy Mayor / D.B. Black H.A. Bodell / J. A. Colquhoun M.T. Dearsly / T de Cleene P. Kelliher / T.S. Mihaere M.C. Sexton / C.W.Teppett J.A. Walding / J.N. Wallace / Town Clerk A.M.P. Hall / City Engineer G.F. Hogg Librarian C.D. Trudgeon / James Walker & Lloyd C. Love architects / J.L McMillan & Co. Ltd. Builders".
